On behalf of the BC-Yukon LIP RIF Network, we invite you and your community partners to attend the upcoming virtual BC-Yukon Policy Summit on October 6, 2026, from 9:30am-12:00pm PST.
BC-Yukon Policy Summit
Canada’s immigration system is entering a consequential period. Public attitudes toward immigration are shifting, confidence in the management of the system has weakened, and communities are navigating concerns related to housing, affordability, infrastructure, labour-market outcomes, and the capacity of public services.
The summit will strengthen the capacity of Local Immigration Partnerships, settlement-sector leaders and community leaders to understand and respond to changing public attitudes toward immigration. It will bring together perspectives on public opinion, immigration policy, newcomer employment, employer needs, and community capacity, with a focus on rebuilding trust and improving outcomes.
There will be ample time for Q&A.
Objectives:
• Examine the factors shaping public attitudes toward immigration.
• Explore the relationship among immigration policy, labour-market needs, employer practices, and newcomer employment experiences.
• Consider how housing, affordability, infrastructure, and local capacity influence confidence in the immigration system.
• Examine the consequences of newcomer underemployment and the underuse of internationally trained talent.
• Identify practical communication, partnership, and local-action approaches that support inclusion and public trust.
• Clarify the role of Local Immigration Partnerships in convening dialogue, communicating evidence, and strengthening local coordination
